Minister Pradeep Yadav and Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh Hold Talks on Long-Term Drinking Water Crisis in Terai–Madhes

Janakpur - Federal Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, and Madhes Province Chief Minister, Satish Kumar Singh, held an in-depth discussion today in Janakpur regarding the long-standing drinking water crisis in the Terai–Madhes region.
The meeting, organized in Janakpur, brought together key stakeholders, including Madhes Province’s Minister for Energy, Irrigation, and Drinking Water Shesh Narayan Yadav, Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Drinking Water Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Ram Kumar Shrestha, and Chief of the Federal Water Supply Office Janakpur Jagarnath Das, along with other experts and officials.
During the discussion, Minister Yadav highlighted the severe water scarcity in the Terai–Madhes region, exacerbated by climate change-induced droughts. He emphasized the ministry’s full commitment to addressing the crisis both personally and institutionally. “A long-term solution requires coordination and collective efforts from all levels,” Yadav said. “I, personally, and the Ministry of Drinking Water are fully active in this matter.”
Chief Minister Singh informed attendees that all 136 local governments within Madhes Province are facing worsening drought and drinking water shortages. He appealed to development partners and donor agencies to step forward with support during this critical time. “Our citizens are suffering due to environmental imbalance and the resulting water crisis,” Singh stated. “I sincerely urge donor organizations to extend their assistance with an open heart.”
Experts and officials present also shared technical and policy-level recommendations aimed at sustainable solutions. The dialogue is seen as a positive step toward resolving one of the region’s most pressing environmental challenges.
