Ramechhap. 23-year-old Dinesh Budhathoki of Khadadevi Rural Municipality-2, Chulthepani, Ramechhap, has finally been freed from a hellish life with the help of Manab Sewa Ashram. Dinesh, who has been mentally unwell for about a decade, had recently been forced to live locked up in a room with iron bars.
After receiving information about Dinesh's condition on Tuesday, a team from Manab Sewa Ashram Raniwan reached Ramechhap, and he was rescued through the joint efforts of local representatives and the Nepal Police.
Dinesh, who lost his mental balance after the 2072 BS (2015 AD) earthquake, had been kept confined inside the house by his family citing safety reasons. The family stated that despite their best efforts to treat Dinesh, they were unsuccessful and were eventually forced to lock him up.
The Ashram reported that Dinesh, whose weak financial condition further complicated his treatment, was brought to the Raniban service center in Kathmandu after the rescue and that the treatment process has begun.
Khadadevi Rural Municipality Chairperson Gyan Kumar Shrestha mentioned that this incident has raised public awareness about mental health and committed to creating a special plan in the coming year's policies and programs for the identification and treatment of such individuals.
Following the rescue, Manab Sewa Ashram has taken responsibility for Dinesh's care and treatment.
Krishna Poudel, an activist at the Ashram, said, "Dinesh's treatment has started. Now we will bring laughter back into his life and provide him with a dignified life."
Manab Sewa Ashram has similarly rescued many people in the past who were chained or barred due to mental illness and provided them with a humane life. Through this campaign, the Ashram has succeeded in establishing its distinct identity in social service.
