Kulman Appeals to Address Gen Z Demands Immediately

Kathmandu – Kulman Ghising, an activist of the Ujyalo Nepal Campaign, condemned and denounced the violent crackdown by the government during the peaceful protest organized nationwide by the Gen Z generation on Monday.
At least 19 youths lost their lives as the state suppressed the protest organized by Gen Z. “Since the state carried out brutal repression against young people, this movement has now become not just Gen Z’s struggle but the movement of the entire Nepali populace,” Ghising said.
In a post on social media, Ghising, who played a decisive role in eliminating daily load-shedding incidents that used to occur up to 18 times a day in Nepal, emphasized that the right to expression of all citizens must be protected.
“Today will be remembered as a dark day in Nepal’s history. I strongly condemn and denounce the government’s violent crackdown during the peaceful protests spontaneously organized nationwide by Gen Z over issues such as prevailing misgovernance, rising corruption, and restrictions on social media,” Ghising said. “This anger represents the dreams of the youth—the dream of a new Nepal, transparent governance, and independent thinking. I am deeply pained that the country has to lose its talented youth due to the brutal suppression of their peaceful demonstrations, which aimed at a beautiful future, prosperity, and accountability.”
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of all youths who lost their lives and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
“Strongly demanding that the government immediately address the demands raised by Gen Z, I hold the government fully responsible for this tragic incident. Since the state carried out brutal suppression against young people, this movement has now become the struggle of all Nepali citizens, not just Gen Z. I also urge all parties to exercise restraint during this sensitive time,” he added.
