Bhote Koshi Flood Update: 1,409 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu. As of Thursday 4:00 AM, a total of 1,409 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River of Rasuwa.

Among these, 1,407 bodies were recovered across various districts: 199 in Rasuwa, 202 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 364 in Chitwan, 78 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, 2 people passed away in Kathmandu during treatment.

To identify the recovered bodies, procedures including DNA sample collection have been carried out, and 1,237 bodies have been managed (safely buried) so far. A total of 3,200 DNA samples have been collected—1,286 from the deceased and 1,914 from relatives—to assist with identification. Furthermore, details of 1,361 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

To date, 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue operations, search efforts, relief distribution, and body management. The search continues for 4,089 missing individuals.

Meanwhile, 1,979 people are currently staying in holding centers established across various districts.
