Car Driver Who Punched Pedestrian in Kathmandu Remanded for Seven Days

In Kathmandu, a car driver who punched a pedestrian on the road has been ordered to remain in custody for seven days. The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, granted permission to detain 42-year-old Paras Bam for seven days of judicial custody to investigate charges related to indecent behavior.

According to SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the District Police Range Kathmandu, Bam was taken into custody following a preliminary investigation after his arrest on Tuesday. He was apprehended Tuesday afternoon in the Bhotahity area of Kathmandu by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and subsequently transferred to the District Police Range for further action. 

According to the police, the incident occurred last Saturday near the Chappal Karkhana in Maharajgunj. Authorities began searching for the driver after a video went viral on social media showing a car driver verbally abusing and punching a pedestrian.

In his preliminary statement, Bam claimed he punched the pedestrian because the individual had used offensive language toward him. The viral video shows Bam exiting his car and physically assaulting the pedestrian. During the encounter, a woman’s voice can be heard shouting insults, followed by footage of a second assault. Police stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
