The Working Journalist Association Condemns Brutal Crackdown on “New Generation” Protest
The Working Journalist Association, Nepal strongly condemned the government’s brutal crackdown on the “New Generation” protest demanding digital rights, transparency, anti-corruption measures, and accountable governance, calling it a “dark day for modern democracy.”
The association paid tribute to the “martyrs” killed during the crackdown and expressed deep condolences to their grieving families. Four journalists were injured while covering the protest: Shyam Shrestha (Kantipur TV), Dipendra Dhungana (Naya Patrika), Umesh Karki (NepalPress.com), and Shambhu Dangal, with Dhungana receiving treatment at Patan Hospital. The association wished them a speedy recovery.
The Working Journalist Association held the government fully responsible and demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Minister of Communications and IT, immediate dismissal and action against those involved, and the formation of a judicial inquiry committee.
