Novel ‘Jetho Chhoro’ Depicting the Silent Pain of Eldest Sons Released
Syangja — Suraj Gaihre, a lyricist who has been active in the Nepali music scene for over a decade, has entered the literary world with his debut novel ‘Jetho Chhoro’ (Eldest Son).
Born in Syangja, Suraj has been living with his family in Kawasoti, Nawalpur for the past eight years. Even while abroad, he continued his creative work and is known in the Nepali music industry as a prolific lyricist over the past 10–11 years.
Suraj officially debuted with the song “Dhuja–Dhuja Paryau Mutu Siera Hideko Chu” and has since penned over 40 songs including “Jindagiko Ke Chha Ra Bhar,” “Mrityu Kahaa,” “Tadai Bata Deun Aashirbad,” “Ma Dhartikko Kura Garchu,” “Aau Chau Ra Pheri,” “Simsim Paryo Pani,” and “Narisaunu Hoi.”
With his novel, Suraj has now stepped into the literary world. ‘Jetho Chhoro’ portrays the silent pain of thousands of youths caught between social realities and family responsibilities. Through the character Suraj, the novel poignantly depicts the burdens, expectations, and sacrifices associated with being the eldest son in Nepali society.
Speaking about his novel, the author said:
"Life never asks — are you ready or not? But responsibilities knock on your door one day. From that moment, childhood ends. ‘Jetho Chhoro’ is not just my story; it is the silent truth of thousands of families in Nepal."
The novel tenderly captures emotions ranging from a mother’s love and a father’s silence to familial duties, the pain and struggles of those working abroad, and an undying sense of self-confidence. Its central message — “If your sacrifice can keep your family alive, that itself is a form of worship” — deeply resonates with readers.
The novel’s language editing was supported by literary figures Dhanapati Koirala and Arjun Abiral. The publication was handled by Madhyabindu Chhapakhana, with Sagar Pokhrel and other collaborators, whom the author has expressed special gratitude toward.
According to Suraj:
"This is not just a novel; it is a journey of the pieces of life I have lived. Every page holds pain, and every sentence carries the rebirth of hope."
Literary critics say that ‘Jetho Chhoro’ is a profound reflection of the duties, pressures, and unexpressed suffering faced by eldest sons in contemporary Nepali society. The novel presents struggle not as defeat but as a new way to understand life.
The author has confirmed that the novel is now available in bookstores across the country.-1766730641.jpg)
