Embassy of Pakistan Hosts International Urdu Poetry Symposium in Kathmandu

Kathmandu – The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Sahitya Academy Nepal, successfully organized a grand international poetry symposium titled “Aalmi Mushaira; Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan” (عالمی مشاعرہ، اردو، شاعری کی زبان) on 22 July 2025 at Hotel Aloft, Kathmandu.

The literary event aimed at strengthening cultural ties and promoting literary exchange between Pakistan and Nepal. It brought together a distinguished group of Urdu poets and literature enthusiasts from both countries.

Honourable Mr. Siraj Ahmed Farooqi, Member of Parliament from CPN-UML, and Honourable Ms. Kalpana Miya, Member of Parliament from CPN-Maoist Centre, graced the event as special guests. The gathering was attended by politicians, intellectuals, social activists, and officials from the Pakistan Embassy.

Renowned Urdu poets including Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni (President of Sahitya Academy, Nepal), Dr. Afzal Manglori, Mr. Furqan Faizi, Mr. Musharaf Ali Khan, Mr. Zahid Azad Jhanda Nagri, Mr. Ghalib Dareeb, Mr. Altaf Farifta, and Ms. Sapna Ahsaas recited their works, captivating the audience with the richness and emotional depth of Urdu poetry.

Guests praised the Government of Pakistan’s efforts in promoting art and culture abroad, especially in Nepal. The initiative of the Embassy to gather poets and promote Urdu language was widely appreciated. Noted Nepali filmmaker and writer Mr. Prakash Sayami lauded the universal appeal and expressive power of Urdu poetry in his address.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, H.E. Mr. Abrar H. Hashmi, expressed gratitude to the Sahitya Academy Nepal and the participating poets for their contributions to Urdu literature. He emphasized the significance of fostering deeper cooperation between literary communities of both countries and underscored the mutual promotion of languages like Urdu and Nepali.

The event served as a vibrant platform to celebrate linguistic heritage and cultural collaboration, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Nepal.
