Canvas of Humla's Chankheli: The Art Journey of 77 Districts Becomes Even More Interesting

Humla. Academician Nagen Singh Thakuri, who is traveling across the country with the great mission of introducing Nepal as the world's best destination, has reached Chankheli Rural Municipality in Humla.

There, on his "Triangular Canvas," he has depicted the Darma village, situated under the shadow of the Nigl mountain, which is rich in historical and natural heritage, along with the Darma Jiulo (a large cultivated plain) - the largest in Karnali Province, and the highway leading from Kailash Mansarovar to Rara Lake, all located in Ward-2 of Chankheli Rural Municipality, Humla district.

While transferring Chankheli onto the canvas, he said, "Chankheli is no longer just a destination; it has become a powerful canvas for the 'Nepal Art Tour' to take Nepal's heritage worldwide."

The live-painting event held at the Chankheli center saw a significant presence of local residents, including Rural Municipality Chairperson Pyarilal Shahi, Ward Chairperson Brish Bahadur Singh, and Chankheli Teachers' Association President Jagat Bahadur Shahi.

Local residents also provided Academician Thakuri with information regarding Chankheli's historical significance, cultural identity, and natural structure.

The locals are confident that the Chankheli he has depicted on his canvas will be recognized on the world stage.

Chankheli Rural Municipality Chairperson Shahi expressed his hope, stating, "The spread of the marvelous beauty of Darma village and Nigl mountain across the world is Chankheli's greatest achievement," and expressed optimism that it would further attract tourists who wish to enjoy nature.

Thakuri has already introduced many heritages to the world through art, from Lumbini, Sagarmatha to Pashupatinath, Muktinath, and various National Parks.

His goal is to prepare the second edition of the book 'Nepal Art Tour' by depicting at least three religious, cultural, and natural heritages from all 77 districts on his triangular canvas.

He stated that the artwork would be translated into 197 languages and sent to universities and libraries worldwide. Through this campaign, artist Thakuri aims to attract 10 million tourists to Nepal by 2087 BS.

Having also served as a member of the Academic Council of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts in 2071 BS,he has been actively involved in art creation and promotion for a long time.

Due to this active involvement, he has so far painted over 150 heritage sites on canvas.

He has received numerous honors including the Gold Medal, Arniko Youth Award, and National Fine Arts Exhibition Award, and was also honored with the Prabal Janasewashree title by the President on Baisakh 1, 2080 BS. The honors he has received are evidence of his significant contribution to the field of art.

The first edition of 'Nepal Art Tour,' published this year, includes the names of 1,561 publishers. With the participation of about 500,000 Nepalis, this work is now being prepared in an even more expanded format for the second edition.

Voluntary contributions are also being collected for the 100 Rupees campaign to include publishers' names. Additionally, more than 100 copies of the book have been sold so far.

He has now reached Humla during his "77-district on-site art tour" to create the 'Nepal Art Tour,' a work published by 500,000 Nepalis.
