JSP Leader Criticizes Government’s Decision to Block Social Media
Kathmandu, Nepal – Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has strongly opposed the government’s decision to block social media platforms. Expressing serious concern over the ban, Basnet condemned the move as an infringement on citizens’ rights.
Basnet stated, “The government closed industries and factories, and we remained mere spectators. By doing so, the government eliminated employment opportunities within the country, and we stayed silent. Today, the government has directly interfered with citizens’ freedom of expression and their right to information, yet we remain quiet.”
He described the government’s unilateral administrative decision to restrict social media as a step toward authoritarianism. Basnet strongly criticized the move for undermining democratic values and citizens’ rights, urging the government to revoke the decision.
He further added that the ban on social media would disrupt communication and social connections among citizens.
