Writ Filed at Supreme Court Demanding Release of KP Sharma Oli
A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding the release of KP Sharma Oli from custody. While the writ was registered today, the hearing is scheduled for Monday. The habeas corpus petition was filed at the Supreme Court seeking the release of the UML Chairman and former Prime Minister Oli.
The writ was filed on behalf of Oli's wife, Radhika Shakya, claiming that he has been illegally arrested and detained. Supreme Court spokesperson Bimal Poudel informed that the petition filed by Shakya is currently in the registration process. The writ argues that the act of arresting and detaining him solely based on the recommendations of the Gauri Bahadur Karki Inquiry Commission report is illegal.
It demands Oli's release, stating that the process of directly arresting an individual based only on the suggestions or report of an investigative body is not in accordance with the law. Oli and Congress leader and former Home Minister Lekhak were arrested on Saturday, March 28, on charges of suppressing the Gen-Z movement.
