Gender Representation in Proportional Representation Lists

Kathmandu: In the closed list submitted by political parties for the House of Representatives elections under the proportional representation system, the number of women has been found to be higher than that of men.

According to the details released by the Election Commission, the final closed list for the proportional representation system includes 1,772 women and 1,363 men. A total of 63 political parties are participating in the proportional representation category, and the Commission has maintained 57 election symbols in total.

According to the Commission, 3,135 candidates have been maintained in the final list. The Commission published the final list in accordance with Section 29 of the House of Representatives Member Election Act, 2074 and Sub-rule 2 of Rule 16 of the House of Representatives Member Election Regulations, 2074.

The Commission removed the names of 76 candidates from the closed list for various reasons. Among them, the names of 21 individuals on the Credit Information Bureau's blacklist and 25 individuals whose names were already on the closed list for the provincial assembly's proportional representation system were removed.

Similarly, the Commission removed 10 individuals who had not paid prescribed fines and one individual who was not listed in the voter list for a backward region. Additionally, the names of 10 individuals were removed following written requests from their respective political parties.
