UML Vice Chairman Poudel Acknowledges Electoral Setback
Kathmandu: CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bishnu Prasad Poudel has admitted that the party suffered a major political blow and failure in the recent elections. Speaking at the 27th Yadu Memorial Day and 24th Yadu Memorial Journalism Award ceremony, he expressed determination to learn from this failure and rise again.
He said, "We have gone through many successes and failures. This time we have faced a major blow; we will take lessons from this and we will overcome it to rise again."
He warned that democratic achievements could be lost due to ultra-leftist thinking. He stated that all political forces must be responsible for protecting the achievements gained through the peaceful people's movement.
He said, "The end of the monarchy through the peaceful people's movement, the election of the Constituent Assembly, the opportunity to form a government under one's own leadership, and the creation of the constitution through the Constituent Assembly provided an opportunity for peaceful and democratic social transformation. I had advised not to lose this opportunity by making ultra-leftist mistakes."
He added, "They did not listen; they tried to remove the Chief of Army Staff but could not. Instead, a situation was created where they had to leave the government leadership themselves. The results of ultra-leftism are never good." Recalling events related to the then-government, he warned that wrong decisions could lead the leadership into crisis.
