UML Leader Mahesh Basnet Questions Government's Inaction on Illegal '1XBet' Betting Platform
Kathmandu. CPN (UML) leader Mahesh Basnet has raised serious questions over the current government's "inactivity and silence" regarding the activities of the banned online betting and gaming platform '1XBet' and its associated groups.
Issuing a post through the social media platform Facebook, leader Basnet stated that despite '1XBet' being legally prohibited in Nepal, it has shown a tendency to engage in harmful manipulation and character assassination against political, social, and public figures. He termed such actions an "open assault on democratic values and civil liberties."
In the post, Basnet said, "It is the state's responsibility to stop these kinds of activities, but the current government's inactivity and silence have become a matter of serious concern."
He warned the government to immediately attempt to halt these illegal activities, stating that otherwise, as citizens, they would be compelled to seek legal and constitutional remedies.
Leader Basnet drew the state's attention to its duty, asserting that "no one is above the law in Nepal—neither a foreign platform nor any self-interested group operating in collusion with the government."
