UML Convention: Nomination Process Underway for New Leadership
Kathmandu, December 15 - The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) is set to hold the candidate nominations for its new leadership today, the second day of the ongoing 11th National Convention's closed session.
According to the election schedule, candidate registration and nomination will take place today from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, informed Dr. Bijay Subba, Chairman of the UML Central Election Commission. He stated that the commission will publish the final list of voters at 10:15 AM today and then commence the candidate registration process.
The commission began the election process yesterday by releasing the voter list. As per the election schedule, application forms for candidates will be distributed today from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following nominations, the preliminary list of candidates will be published today at 2:30 PM, and the time for receiving objections against candidates is set from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
Similarly, the commission has allocated time for candidates to withdraw their names from 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM today, and the final list of candidates is scheduled to be published at 6:00 PM this evening, as per the election schedule. The Election Commission announced that all processes will be completed today, and the election will take place tomorrow, December 16.
According to Dr. Subba, the voting for the new leadership will be held from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on December 16. The voting will take place at the convention venue, Bhrikutimandap.
The UML will once again use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the election this time. A total of 2,262 delegates are participating in the convention. The contest for the new leadership is set to be between the current Chairman, KP Sharma Oli, and Senior Vice-Chairman, Ishwor Pokhrel. EVMs were also used in the 10th National Convention held previously in Chitwan.
