UML Candidate Recommendations Gain Momentum Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Following the directives issued by the CPN-UML to district and regional committees to recommend candidate names from their respective constituencies for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, the process of recommending candidates at the district and constituency levels has intensified across the country.

During the recommendation process, some constituencies have recommended a single name, while others have sent multiple names to the center. In this context, UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet's name has been recommended unanimously from Bhaktapur Constituency No. 2.

Basnet was elected from the same constituency in the 2074 B.S House of Representatives election. However, in the 2079 election, he was defeated by the Congress-Maoist alliance.

At a time when chaotic activities were increasing nationwide under the name of the Gen Z movement and attempts were being made to unofficially ban political parties, Basnet took to the political field to protest. After Basnet became actively involved in street and political activities, other UML leaders and other political parties also gradually became active in public.

Meanwhile, UML leader Gokul Baskota’s name has also been recommended unanimously from Kavre Constituency No. 2. Baskota has already been elected from the same constituency in the 2074 and 2079 House of Representatives elections.

Since their names were recommended unanimously, it is almost certain that they will contest the election from these constituencies. However, the final decision will be made by the party center.
