Gagan Thapa Pledges to Uphold Party Pride After Being Elected NC President
Kathmandu, January 15: Newly elected President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has pledged that he will never allow the leaders and party workers who entrusted him with this responsibility to bow their heads in shame.
Addressing leaders, party workers, and well-wishers today at the special convention venue after his election, President Thapa expressed his firm resolve to build a party in which every member feels proud to be a Nepali Congress member.
“With the trust you have placed in me by handing over the responsibility of party president, I will not allow any situation where any of you have to lower your heads. I will uphold the dignity of the Nepali Congress Party. I will make it so that all those associated with this party feel proud to be Nepali Congress members. The party will act in such a way that citizens feel the Congress stands with them in difficult times,” said the newly elected President Thapa.
He stated that the special convention of the Nepali Congress represents the greatest intervention by grassroots party workers not only in the party’s history but also in the history of modern Nepal.
“Grassroots party workers are representatives of the people; they are citizens. This is an intervention by citizens within a political party,” Thapa said.
Emphasizing that the Nepali Congress has not split under any circumstances, he clarified that holding a special convention through legitimate and constitutional procedures does not raise any question of party division.
Earlier, Chairperson of the Central Election Committee, Sitaram KC, had announced that Thapa was elected unopposed to the post of party president.
