Dhodhara Chandani and Bhimdatta Municipalities' Mahakali Suspension Bridge Snaps

Kanchanpur. The suspension bridge over the Mahakali River located in Ward No. 4 of Dhodhara Chandani Municipality, Kanchanpur, has snapped. According to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, damage was caused to the Dhodhara Chandani side of the bridge on Wednesday morning due to the high flow of the Mahakali River.

Police reported that movement across the bridge has been halted after a 5–6 meter section was pushed upward and one of the pillars collapsed. The damage occurred after a central pillar of the bridge was swept away by the Mahakali River. Following the damage, pedestrian traffic connecting Dhodhara Chandani Municipality and Bhimdatta Municipality has come to a complete standstill.

Police stated that efforts are underway by the concerned authorities to repair the damaged bridge. This suspension bridge is among the longest suspension bridges in Nepal and is also known as the second-longest suspension bridge in Asia.
