Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,454 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu: As of 5:00 AM on Wednesday, 1,454 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi.

Among them, 1,452 bodies were found across various districts: 236 in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi (East), and 222 in Nawalparasi (West). Additionally, 2 people passed away during treatment in Kathmandu.

To identify the recovered bodies, necessary procedures—including DNA sample collection—are being carried out. So far, 1,334 bodies have been managed (safely buried underground). A total of 3,396 DNA samples have been collected for identification, including 1,330 from the deceased and 2,066 from relatives. Details of 1,421 unidentified bodies have also been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue, search operations, relief distribution, and body management. Search efforts are currently ongoing for 4,718 missing individuals. Meanwhile, 1,234 people are currently being housed in holding centers across various districts.
