Home Minister Sudhan Gurung Defrauded in Phewa Lake Land Case

Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, who has been leading a ruthless crackdown against the corrupt, fraudsters, and criminals, has himself been found defrauded in the Phewa Lake land case in Pokhara. While Minister Gurung has been running a campaign in coordination with the Pokhara Metropolitan City to remove structures built by encroaching on Phewa Lake land following a Supreme Court order, it was discovered that the land he had leased is also within the encroached area.

Minister Gurung and two other partners are set to seek legal recourse, claiming that the landowner defrauded them by hiding the fact that the land was encroached upon and misleading them while leasing it out. Around 8 to 10 years ago, Minister Gurung and three young entrepreneurs moved forward with a plan to operate 'Adventure Sports Nepal' with the holy objective of promoting adventure tourism on the banks of Phewa Lake in Pokhara.

"Possessing the energy and a deep desire to do something within the country, we started the work with significant investment and dreams. Before leasing the land, the landowners assured us that the land did not fall within the 65-meter criteria. Even the land ownership certificate showed the land was secure, but after later inquiring with the municipality, it turned out to be within the criteria," Minister Gurung said.

Gurung also stated that they immediately stopped the work after realizing they had been misled. "As soon as I learned the fact that the land was leased to us by misleading and defrauding us, I immediately stopped all construction work and investment on moral grounds. As a young entrepreneur, the play that was made with our dreams and investment is not acceptable," he said.

Minister Gurung is preparing to seek legal remedies against this fraud. "I would like to inform everyone that we will move forward without any deviation in the legal process for the strongest possible legal remedy against this injustice and fraud committed against us," Minister Gurung said.
