Home Minister Urges Early Action on Disaster Preparedness
Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung and the CEO of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Dinesh Bhatta, held a meeting at the Ministry to discuss disaster management. During a briefing on risks falling under the Ministry's jurisdiction on Sunday, the Home Minister requested that all necessary preparations for disaster management be completed before the monsoon begins.
Executive Chief Dinesh Bhatta noted that while such briefings are a regular process, the current Home Minister’s early involvement is a significant change. He remarked that previous ministers often addressed these issues much later, and this proactive approach will make coordinating disaster management efforts much easier for the authority.
Home Minister Gurung shared that he has spent ten years working directly in disaster risk reduction. He emphasized that now, in his capacity as Home Minister, he is dedicated to ensuring that mitigation and prevention measures are firmly in place before disasters occur.
