Students Prefer Nepal Engineering College Despite Its Location
Kathmandu — “Better late than never” is a common Nepali saying. With similar spirit, aspiring students said on Saturday that though Nepal Engineering College (NEC) in Duwakot, Changunarayan, Bhaktapur is far from the city, they still wish to study there.
Located about 10–15 km from central Kathmandu, NEC attracted a large crowd of applicants for its entrance exams. According to Principal Assoc. Prof. Durga Prasad Bhandari, students come from across Nepal, and after Pulchowk Campus, NEC is among the most reputed engineering colleges.
The college runs seven undergraduate programs: Civil, Civil & Rural, Computer, Architecture, Electrical & Electronics, and the newly launched Information & Communication Engineering. NEC, affiliated with Pokhara University and recognized by the Nepal Engineering Council, is a non-profit institution registered at the Bhaktapur District Administration Office.
Chairman of the Management Committee, Changunarayan Mayor Jivan Khatri, along with board members, encouraged students during the entrance exam.
Scholarship Schemes at NEC
Provincial Scholarship: Full tuition waiver for one top student from each of Nepal’s seven provinces.
Community Scholarship: For poor and underprivileged students from government/community schools, offering full or partial fee waivers.
Other Supports: Need-based and merit-based scholarships, local government support, and university-level scholarships.
Assoc. Prof. Sachin Shrestha, head of the new Information & Communication Engineering program, said graduates will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in telecommunications, IT, IoT, and AI, opening strong opportunities in both government and private sectors.
With 31 years of service, NEC highlights its peaceful environment, affordable fees, more than 100 full-time faculty, modern labs, library and research facilities, transport services, national and international exposure, guest lectures, and multiple scholarship schemes.
