Strong Criticism of Government Leadership: Purna Basnet Claims No Policy Can Succeed Without Political Reform

Kathmandu — Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has accused the current government of failing to provide the country with proper direction. He strongly criticized the government for oppressing, exploiting, and suppressing the people while weakening the nation.

Basnet stated, “It seems like the government exists only to impose barbed wire and restrictions on the people and to weaken the country. They spare no effort in this regard.” According to him, the leadership of the main political parties still holds a Panchayat-era mindset, which is incompatible with the awareness and aspirations of today’s people and the technological advancements of the world.

He added, “We have adopted a federal democratic republican system, but the political leadership’s thinking remains purely feudal.” He accused the ruling parties of focusing on agendas like ‘Mission 2084’ that harm the public instead of working for their welfare during their tenure.

Purna Basnet emphasized that without reforming the political system and leadership, no policy can be effective, and the country’s overall development will be hindered. He also pointed out that the sole objective of major political parties has become winning elections and staying in power, reflecting corruption in the political culture.
