Silent Period for House of Representatives Election Starts Tonight

Kathmandu. The silent period for the House of Representatives election is set to begin from midnight tonight. Election campaigning activities are permitted only until today.

According to the Election Commission, the silent period will commence at 12:00 AM on Tuesday and will remain in effect until the voting process is completed. During this period, no election campaigning or any related activities are allowed.

The Commission stated that since the silent period comes into effect 48 hours prior to the day of polling, activities such as assemblies, conferences, discussions, interactions, workshops, or seminars are prohibited.

Additionally, 48 hours before the voting begins, any campaign materials belonging to parties or candidates placed within a 300-meter radius of polling stations must be removed. During this time, soliciting votes or campaigning through any medium is strictly forbidden.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has warned that if the code of conduct is violated during the silent period, the concerned candidate's nomination could be canceled.
