Discussion of NCP Leader Shivram Yadav Contesting Election from Saptari-1
Kathmandu, January 14. Discussions have surfaced regarding Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Central Committee member Shivram Yadav becoming a candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives election from Saptari district, Constituency No. 1.
A leader from the Prachanda-led NCP stated that Shivram Yadav's name is among those being discussed as a potential candidate from Saptari-1.
Youth leader Yadav mentioned that if the party grants him the ticket, he will not step back from becoming a candidate in the upcoming election.
According to the Election Commission, nominations for candidates contesting under the first-past-the-post system for the election scheduled for Falgun 21 will be registered on Magh 6.
Yadav, who started his political journey during his school days after being influenced by the student movement of 2035/36 B.S., began active politics through the ANNISU of the then NCP (ML) in 2043 B.S.
Following the political changes of 2046 B.S., he remained active in the CPN (UML) affiliated student union, ANNISU, and was elected as a Free Student Union (FSU) member at Patan Multiple Campus, and later as the Joint Secretary and Vice Chairman of the FSU at the Tribhuvan University Central Campus, Kirtipur.
When the CPN (UML) split over the Mahakali Treaty dispute with India, Yadav joined the NCP (ML) faction.
Having joined the CPN (Maoist) in 2058 B.S. and participated in the People's War, Yadav has also spent time in prison. He served as a member of the first Constituent Assembly representing the then Maoist party.
While in the Maoist party, he authored the slogan "Say with pride that we are Madhesis; we are not foreign fugitives, we are sons of the soil." Additionally, he played a leading role in having that slogan painted on the walls of the Kathmandu Valley.
Yadav is also the creator of the slogan "Down with Mandale nationalism that identifies only hill-dwellers as Nepalis."
For a long time, he served as the Valley Coordinator for the Madhesi National Liberation Front, the national front of the then CPN (Maoist).
Yadav, who claims never to have compromised on the rights and liberation of the Madhesh, is an opponent of racial nationalism and a supporter of true, inclusive, and progressive nationalism.
Having completed a B.Sc. in Science and an MA in Economics, Yadav remains a follower of Marxist and Ambedkarite ideologies today.
