Dr. Shekhar Koirala: I Chose a Middle Path to Save the Party from Splitting
Morang: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that he adopted a middle-of-the-road approach to protect the party from a potential split.
During a meeting and discussion program with party leaders and cadres organized in Sundarharaicha, Morang Constituency No. 6, on Thursday, leader Koirala explained that he chose a calm and moderate path to preserve the party. Stating that the party has already moved forward for the House of Representatives elections, Koirala said the election would provide a clear exit for the country.
Clarifying his decision not to participate in the special convention, Koirala said, "If I had gone to the special convention, the party could have split. I took the middle path so that the party would not break." Pointing out that the special convention is a party process, he added, "This is a process of the party. Today, Dila (Dr. Dila Sangroula) ji and I are in the same place, walking together in the election race. Therefore, the issue of the convention is over; let's not go there."
Koirala mentioned that while serving as a Member of Parliament for the benefit of this region and the country until the Gen Z movement, he focused on everything from policy-making to making people's lives easier and more pleasant. He said, "While in Parliament, I kept speaking against corruption and in favor of bringing good governance. I fought both inside and outside Parliament."
During the discussion, Koirala stated that he did not let the heads of the people in that region bow in national politics. He said that rather than walking away by breaking the party, the best option now is to provide a way out by keeping the party together. He explained that since it is also their responsibility to take the party into the election united without letting it split, he had taken the middle path accordingly.
During the meeting with cadres, leader Koirala emphasized accepting past events within the party and focusing on the upcoming election. Stating that the election will provide a solution for the country, he said everyone should play a unified role to ensure a Congress victory this time.
