Dr. Shekhar Koirala Commits to Party Unity Amid Internal Dispute

Kathmandu: Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, held discussions with central committee members, district party presidents, and senior advocates close to him. During the meeting, Dr. Koirala stated that he is committed to leading the party in a unified manner. He informed participants that he is in constant dialogue and consultation with all factions of the party to protect it from a split.

Koirala mentioned that he is making a final effort to maintain internal unity, even if it means "drinking poison" himself. He said, "I am talking to the party president, acting president, and general secretaries, insisting that the party must not be allowed to split under any circumstances. I am working to save the party. Do not worry, the party will be saved. I will not let it break. We must move forward through coordination and keep the party as one solid entity."

During the discussion, legal professionals noted that according to the Nepali Congress statutes, only the Central Working Committee has the authority to call a special general convention. They stated that the special convention currently called by the general secretaries is not legitimate and cannot be used to change the leadership.

At the meeting, all leaders and party workers urged Dr. Shekhar Koirala to facilitate between both factions and work toward making the party united to save it from a split.
