Agreement Between RSP and Balen Shah: 7-Point Consensus
Kathmandu: A seven-point agreement regarding a "grand unity" has been reached between the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra (Balen) Shah.
According to the agreement reached on Sunday, Rabi Lamichhane will remain the Central Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. However, after the elections, Balen Shah will be moved forward as the Parliamentary Party Leader and the candidate for the future Prime Minister.
The agreement was reached this morning after discussions that lasted all night. Chairman Lamichhane and Mayor Shah have both signed the document.
Dialogue and efforts regarding cooperation and unity between RSP and Balen Shah had been ongoing for a long time. Specifically, continuous meetings and discussions between the two leaders began last Monday.
The seven points of the agreement are as follows:
- To take ownership of the movement led by the youth against corruption and bad governance, and to commit to properly addressing the demands of the families of those injured or martyred.
- To be dedicated to the honest implementation of a roadmap to make Nepal a respectable middle-income nation within the next ten years. This will be achieved through deep policy, institutional, and structural reforms for the national goals of prosperity and social justice, based on economic-social development and cultured political practice.
- After the grand unity between the first and second parties, the name of the political party will be ‘Rastriya Swatantra Party’. The party flag will remain the same, the election symbol will be the 'Bell', and the central office will be located in the Kathmandu Valley.
- Rabi Lamichhane will remain the Central Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Balendra Shah will be the Parliamentary Party Leader and the future Prime Minister candidate after the upcoming House of Representatives election.
- After the grand unity, to make the party's organizational structure more capable and broad by properly including youth activists and experienced experts. Responsibilities will be assigned based on merit, inclusivity, and public image.
- To update the documents regarding the Rastriya Swatantra Party at the Election Commission according to this agreement.
- To call upon other cultured and transformative alternative political forces, groups, and individuals to unite under the principles, leadership, and 'Bell' election symbol of the Rastriya Swatantra Party to advance the issues of democratic good governance, prosperity, and social justice.
