Robotic Traffic Police Deployed in Eastern China
Agency. Robot traffic police have come into operation in cities of Eastern China. Drivers and pedestrians in the city of Wuhu can now see a new type of police officer directing traffic.
The human-sized robot, featuring a silicon face, tied hair, and dark glasses, can be seen active at busy intersections. This robot uses its arms to gesture while providing audio warnings to drivers and cyclists.
Local resident Zhang Xiaoping says, "At first glance, the robot looks like a real person, but it operates on technology. it acts as a deterrent for both drivers and those riding without helmets."
The robotic traffic officer is equipped with six cameras and a light detection and ranging system to understand road conditions, avoid obstacles while moving, and transmit data to a backend system.
Currently, the robot works to spread traffic rules, give commands while standing at intersections, and assist in traffic control.
