Resignation by Home Minister Sudan Gurung
Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post. He shared the information of his decision to step down from his responsibilities through social media on Wednesday. Writing on social media, he mentioned that he has taken the questions, comments, and public concerns raised by citizens regarding his shares and other matters in recent days seriously.
Stating that he considers morality and public trust greater than any position, he clarified that he resigned to pave the way for an impartial investigation.
He wrote, "I, Sudan Gurung, have been honestly fulfilling the responsibility of Home Minister since March 27, 2026. I have taken the questions, comments, and public concerns raised by the citizen level regarding my shares and other matters in recent days seriously. For me, morality is greater than a position, and there is no power greater than public trust.
Today, the Gen Z movement rising in the country demanding good governance, transparency, and accountability has also given this message: public life must be clean and leadership must be responsible. If anyone questions the government formed on the basis of the blood and sacrifice of my 46 brothers and sisters, the answer to that is morality.
Therefore, with the objective that there should be an impartial investigation into matters related to me and that there should be no conflict of interest or any impact on the investigation while remaining in office, I have resigned from the post of Home Minister effective from today."
He stated that he stepped down immediately so that no 'conflict of interest' would be seen while in office and that the investigation would not be affected. Additionally, he explained his step as the fulfillment of a moral responsibility.
He mentioned that the Gen Z movement rising in the country demanding good governance, transparency, and accountability has sent the message that public life must be clean and leadership must be accountable.
He urged all parties to stand on the path of truth, honesty, and self-purification. Addressing media persons, the general public, and the youth, Gurung stated that sacrifice and moral courage are necessary for real change.
