Purna Basnet’s Suggestion: Political Dishonesty Should Not Repeat in the Functional Unity Between JSP and Rastriya Mukti Party

Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, commented that the functional unity between Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajwadi Party and Rajendra Mahato-led Rastriya Mukti Party should not become a continuation of political dishonesty. He extended his best wishes for the success of the functional unity between the two parties.

Basnet said, “Whenever identity-based leaders come together in one place, there is always a conspiracy against the people. Such actions betray the identity-based movement. Those who consider themselves identity-based are actually unstable and opportunistic.”

He accused those called identity-based leaders of acting under the guidance and direction of anti-identity forces. He added, “When they are weak, they raise issues of identity and rights, and when they and their party become strong, they work to weaken the very identity and rights movement.”

He suggested that those who have left parties of principles, ideology, and issues to create parties for themselves should now undertake serious self-reflection.

Basnet also stated that leaders like Baburam Bhattarai, Mahanta Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, and Ashok Rai, who were once united in JSP Nepal, later took back their respective former factions to lead parties for themselves. He warned that such tendencies and approaches cannot establish the rights of the people.
