Extremism Will Only Sink the Nation: Warning from JSP Leader Purna Basnet
Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has said that recent political developments have weakened the environment for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
He urged the government, political parties, and the Election Commission to work together to create a stable and secure electoral atmosphere.
According to Basnet, although the government has already announced the election schedule, increasing political confrontation has made the situation unstable.
He said, “The rallies and assemblies organized by the CPN-UML appear to provoke and criminalize the Gen Z rebellion.
On the other side, Gen Z youths are competing to boycott and oppose UML. Elections held under such circumstances may not bring solutions but could instead push the nation toward conflict.”
He emphasized that all sides must exercise restraint during this sensitive transitional phase and called for abandoning extremist thinking.
Basnet said, “We must all take responsibility by giving up all forms of extremist tendencies and guiding the nation toward a lawful and constitutional path.”
He also said that it is essential to find a point of cooperation and understanding between the political forces ousted by the movement and the Gen Z youths who want to implement the mandate of the movement.
