Government Unable to Carry the Mandate of the Movement: Purna Basnet
Purna Basnet, head of the Publicity and Publication Department of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has said that the government led by Sushila Karki is unlikely to carry the mandate of the movement.
Basnet remarked that the government seems confined to popularity, stunts, revenge, and propaganda, and urged the youth to remain more vigilant toward it.
Basnet said, “If the current government has understood the spirit of the movement, it should conduct direct elections for the executive head.
This government was not formed to bring forward the 2084 elections to Falgun 2082. If that happens, it will be the biggest betrayal of the movement. With elections, the relevance of the movement ends.”
He further stated that investigating corruption scandals and taking action is another mandate of the Gen-Z movement. To lay the foundation of good governance, the current government must dare to take bold steps, he added.
According to him, the achievements of the movement are at risk of being lost as the leadership does not reflect the policy it advocates.
He clearly expressed that Gen-Z youths themselves must lead the current government. In his view, a celebrity-led government will find it difficult to provide strong political leadership.
