Protesters Burn Gagan Thapa's Effigy in Janakpur
Janakpur — Supporters of Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi burnt an effigy (a dummy) of leader Gagan Thapa in Janakpurdham on Tuesday evening. They shouted slogans against Thapa and blocked the streets to show their anger.
The protesters shouted "Down with Gagan Thapa" and "Long live Nepali Congress." The protest was so big that it blocked all traffic at Pidari Chowk, stopping cars and buses from moving.
According to Rakesh Bikram, a young party leader, the protest happened because leader Bimalendra Nidhi was treated badly by some people earlier that day in Kathmandu. He said the party teaches everyone to respect their leaders and that what happened to Nidhi was wrong.
The incident in Kathmandu Earlier on Tuesday, a group of party workers gathered outside the Nepali Congress main office in Sanepa, Kathmandu. When Bimalendra Nidhi arrived for a meeting, the crowd surrounded him and acted rudely toward him.
After videos of this incident spread on social media, his supporters in Janakpur decided to protest in return.
