Proportional Representation (PR) Applications Open from Today

Kathmandu, Mangsir 21: There are now only 88 days remaining until the date of the election for members of the House of Representatives. 

As the election day approaches, the Election Commission has intensified its necessary preparations.

The deadline for the election of members of the House of Representatives has been set for coming Falgun 21. Political parties have also intensified their internal preparations for the election.

The Commission is set to commence the program for the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system starting today. 

The timeframe for political parties to submit applications for the PR system has been set from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM today. The list of political parties that have applied for the proportional election will be published on Mangsir 24.

The deadline for these applicant political parties to submit the closed list of candidates has been set from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Poush 13 and 14. 

Furthermore, the final closed list of PR candidates is scheduled to be published on Magh 30, according to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Commission. 

Out of the total 275 members of the House of Representatives, there is a provision for 110 members to be elected through the proportional representation system.

According to the election schedule for the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system, the registration of candidacies will take place on Magh 6. The program is set for the publication of the list of candidates on the same day. 

A period for filing complaints against candidacies has been set for Magh 7. The names of the candidates will be published on Māgh 8. 

Furthermore, candidates will be able to withdraw their names on Magh 9. The final list of candidates will be published and electoral symbols will be provided to the candidates on the same day.
