Prakash Man Singh Honors Mangala Devi Singh on Her 100th Birth Anniversary
Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh said that Mangala Devi Singh, the first female leader of Nepal's democratic movement, made significant contributions to the rights and welfare of Nepali women.
Speaking at a tribute program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday on the occasion of Mangala Devi Singh's 100th birth anniversary, he stated that Singh not only fought for the rights and welfare of women but also struggled to secure democratic rights for the Nepali people. He mentioned that various programs have been organized to refresh the memory of her contributions.
He said, "On the occasion of the 100th year of Mangala Devi Singh, the first female leader of Nepal's democratic movement, various programs have been organized throughout the year to remember her, her activities, and her contributions, especially to refresh the fact that she struggled not only for the rights and welfare of Nepali women but also to secure democratic rights for the Nepali people. Today's program is organized on the occasion of her birth anniversary."
Furthermore, he stated that Singh also raised her voice for women's suffrage and the right to education during the Rana regime.
He said, "It was because she raised the demand that women should also have the right to vote that women gained the right to vote, and along with that, she also raised the issue that women should have the right to education."
