Prachanda Claims Nepali Communist Party Poised to Become Top Force in Upcoming Elections

Kathmandu: Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' addressed a meeting of the National Assembly parliamentary party held today at Singha Durbar. During his address, coordinator Prachanda stated that there is a strong possibility of the Nepali Communist Party becoming the leading party in the upcoming elections.

He clarified that although the party was formed by incorporating 20 different groups, candidates for the House of Representatives were selected in a way that includes all factions, with special attention also given to the selection of proportional representation candidates. He expressed confidence that the party's candidates would deliver results in the election, as they were chosen based on public opinion, competence, and public image.

Coordinator Prachanda mentioned that the party's image has become more positive nationally and internationally compared to other old parties due to the initiatives taken by the Nepali Communist Party during the Gen Z movement and subsequent events. He stated that Gen Z youth have also felt that the Nepali Communist Party and its leadership are distinct among the three major parties.

Furthermore, he remarked that the initial enthusiasm seen for the Rastriya Swatantra Party is gradually weakening due to the activities of their candidates, which the public is observing closely. He noted that as details regarding their nominations, the vehicles used, and the sources of their support become public, the momentum they once had is slowly fading.

Prachanda also mentioned that following the withdrawal of candidacy by former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai in Gorkha, the victory of Nepali Communist Party candidate Lekhnath Neupane is nearly certain. He expressed belief that the withdrawal of candidacy and the dialogues held with Dr. Bhattarai would lead to a gradual improvement in the relationship between Dr. Bhattarai and the Nepali Communist Party.

The meeting appointed Beduram Bhusal as the leader of the National Assembly parliamentary party. Similarly, Madan Kumari Shah ‘Garima’ has been appointed as the chief whip and Ganga Belbase as the whip. The party stated that the new leadership team was formed to maintain an effective role in the National Assembly after the previous leader, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, resigned to become an election candidate.
