Proportional Representation Closed List Submission Process Begins Today for Election
Kathmandu — The process of collecting closed lists from political parties under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system for the House of Representatives Election 2082 begins today. The Election Commission has stated that all technical and administrative preparations have been completed in line with the official election schedule.
According to the Commission, only political parties registered as of today, Sunday, and tomorrow, Monday, will be eligible to submit their closed lists of PR candidates. Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai clarified that the entire process—from submission of the closed lists to final publication—will be completed strictly within the prescribed timeline.
The submitted closed lists will be examined from Poush 15 to 20. During the scrutiny process, the Commission will verify whether the lists meet legal and inclusive representation requirements, assess candidates’ qualifications, and review the overall structure of the lists.
Following the scrutiny, political parties will be given an opportunity to correct any errors from Poush 21 to 27. The lists will then undergo re-examination from Poush 28 to Magh 3, after which the preliminary closed list will be published on Magh 4. The final proportional representation closed list is scheduled to be published on Magh 20.
For this election, 100 political parties have been registered to participate under the proportional representation system. These parties will compete using 93 different election symbols.
The Election Commission has reiterated that only registered political parties are permitted to submit closed lists.
