Pokharel says accepting results is the spirit of competitive politics
Kathmandu. CPN-UML leader Ishwar Pokharel has said that accepting the results of the 11th General Convention is the true spirit of competitive politics.
Speaking with Nepal News Bank after his defeat in the convention, Pokharel stated that anyone participating in competitive politics must be able to accept the outcome.
"Entering a competition means moving forward with the readiness to accept both victory and defeat. Those who cannot or do not dare to accept the results are not truly people of competitive politics," he said.
He mentioned that competitive politics has its own challenges and problems. While those issues can be discussed separately, he noted that accepting the overall result of a competition is a necessary part of democratic culture.
Pokharel said that People's Multi-party Democracy is a concept linked to the democratization of party life, and competitive politics is an important part of it. "Accepting competition means embracing democracy," he stated.
Similarly, he pointed out the need for not just CPN-UML, but all political parties in Nepal and their leaders to move forward through a democratic path.
Explaining that the internal structure and leadership selection process are also forms of democratic practice, Pokharel clarified that CPN-UML is moving ahead by accepting these values.
UML has accepted competitive politics and wants to move forward by making it even stronger, Pokharel said.
