UML General Secretary Pokharel criticized U.S. Interference in Venezuela
Kathmandu: Shankar Pokharel, the General Secretary of the CPN (UML), has strongly criticized the U.S. military interference in Venezuela and the move to take President Nicolas Maduro into custody.
General Secretary Pokharel stated that using military force to arrest and charge the elected head of one country by the order of another country's leader is against the United Nations (UN) Charter. He commented that such actions raise questions about the purpose and value of world organizations like the UN.
Sharing his views on social media, Pokharel said, "Such a step cannot and should not be acceptable to the modern world and civilized society."
He further mentioned that the events in Venezuela raise serious questions about international law, national sovereignty, and democratic values. General Secretary Pokharel also suggested that there should be a serious and responsible debate within American society itself regarding such interfering actions.
