Pokharel: Cancelling Land Commission is Like Taking Away Poor People's Rights to Land

Kathmandu: Shankar Pokharel, the General Secretary of the CPN (UML) party, is very angry about the government's decision to close the Land Commission.

He says this decision is the same as taking away the basic right to land from millions of poor and landless people.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mr. Pokharel made his point clear:

"Cancelling the Land Commission means that the fundamental right to get land, which the Constitution gives to millions of landless squatters, settlers, and poor Dalit people, is being taken away."

He also questioned the government's actions: "If the old government's plans and money are fine, how can the Land Commission, which was started under those same plans, be wrong?"
