PM Holds Disaster Management Council Meeting After Rasuwa Flood Visit

Kathmandu, – After conducting an on-site inspection of flood-affected areas in Rasuwa, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli convened a meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council yesterday. The meeting resulted in several important decisions focused on rescue operations, immediate relief, and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.

The meeting emphasized the need to make ongoing search and rescue operations for missing persons more effective and decided to intensify efforts. The Council also expressed gratitude to security personnel, and residents who had participated in the rescue efforts under challenging conditions.

A decision was made to coordinate with the Government of China through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to rebuild the damaged Miteri Bridge over the Bhotekoshi River and resume operations at the Kerung border point. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport was directed to prepare for the functioning of alternative border points with China as well.

The meeting also instructed relevant ministries to promptly repair damaged infrastructure including customs offices, immigration checkpoints, and hydropower projects. It further decided to facilitate the insurance and compensation processes for losses suffered by businesses, including containers, vehicles, and goods.

Additionally, the Council decided to provide immediate relief to the families of those who died or went missing, in accordance with existing legal provisions. Arrangements for free treatment of the injured were also agreed upon.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to swiftly supporting the affected population and ensuring necessary assistance and protection in the aftermath of the disaster.
