Pradeep Paudel says General Convention possible within Poush, urges all to be responsible
Kathmandu. Pradeep Paudel, Central Committee Member of the Nepali Congress, has commented that the General Convention is possible within the month of Poush and that all, along with the office bearers, must be equally responsible for its success.
He expressed regret that he had already registered a proposal regarding this on the second day of the party meeting, but one and a half months were wasted in the dispute over this matter.
Referring to the context that many leaders and cadres called him immediately after the decision was made, expressing suspicion about how the General Convention could be held in such a short time, he reiterated that he had made the proposal in the past because he saw it as possible, and even if there is some delay now, the General Convention is still possible if work is done on a war footing.
‘I had submitted a proposal on Kartik 30, saying that if we proceed with a schedule, the General Convention is possible, let's not prolong the meeting, the General Convention can be held in the remaining period,’ said leader Paudel in a video statement, ‘But because this was not taken seriously, one and a half months of unnecessary time was wasted.’
Central Committee Member Paudel had registered a written proposal in the meeting, including a schedule, stating that the General Convention could be held within the month of Poush. Later, he mentioned that a similar proposal also came from the General Secretary.
Leader Paudel said, 'Later, the General Secretary's proposal also came to complete it within Poush. However, a decision could not be made at that time. If a decision had been made then, the time pressure would not have been so great.'
Stating that the General Convention is possible on the scheduled date, leader Paudel said that for this, everyone should be ready to work as if they are in a war. He expressed confidence that membership renewal and distribution, which is the most important part of the General Convention, will not lead to disputes and delays like in the past due to this year's arrangement.
'But this time it has been made very easy. No one who wants to renew their membership will be deprived. No one's membership will be barred except for those prohibited by the statute. Arrangements will be made for renewal at the ward, district, center, and digitally,' he said, 'Now, any Nepali citizen who wishes can get membership.'
Stating that membership will be given from the ward, center, or through technology if the party fulfills its commitment, leader Paudel said that arrangements have been made to open Congress to all by providing membership to everyone who wants it.
He said that since the regular General Convention is the first priority of those demanding a special General Convention, this will address the demand of 54 percent of the signatories as well.
He said that the General Convention will establish unity in the party and also bring policy clarity, which will benefit the party in the upcoming elections. 'Unity can be maintained in the party after the General Convention. It can come out with policy clarity.
It can bring a perspective that includes the concerns of the Gen Z generation. All structures of the party can become dynamic. A leadership can emerge that can appeal clearly from all sides. It can increase votes in the Falgun 21 election,' said Central Committee Member Paudel.
Stating that completing the General Convention together will benefit Congress, leader Paudel urged all leaders and cadres to actively complete the General Convention.
