Deuba Stresses Party Unity as Lawmakers Push for Pre-Election Convention

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his firm commitment to preventing a split within the party.

His remarks came during a meeting on Friday morning at his Maharajgunj residence with a group of 25 Central Working Committee members from the establishment faction who are lobbying for the 15th General Convention to be held before the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The group reached out to the President while the Central Working Committee meeting was ongoing, exerting pressure for a regular convention to be scheduled ahead of the polls.

Central member Dr. Dila Sangroula, who was part of the delegation, noted that the discussions focused on resolving the deepening internal disputes and maintaining party integrity.

While the party leadership had previously considered holding the convention in mid-January, a section of the leadership has expressed concerns over time constraints.

Following their meeting with Deuba, the group is scheduled to hold further discussions today with General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma to find a consensus on the convention's timeline.
