UML Chairman Oli Claims 11th Convention Answered Narrative of ‘End of Old Parties’
Kathmandu: KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of the CPN (UML), has stated that the party launched a movement by raising the flags of nationality, democracy, peace and order, good governance, and development during an extremely uneasy situation in the country.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 11th General Convention on Thursday evening, he mentioned that the UML took to a nationwide protest demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, which had been dissolved unconstitutionally.
He stated that the movement was pushed forward with the declaration of returning the constitution to the right track after it had been encroached upon, and ensuring that national sovereignty, self-respect, and the country's interests were not compromised.
He said, "In an extremely uneasy situation in the country, CPN (UML) re-entered politics by raising the flag of nationality, the flag of democracy, and the flags of peace and order, good governance, and development.
We took to a nationwide movement with the demand for the immediate reinstatement of the House of Representatives—which was dissolved unconstitutionally—to bring the encroached constitution back to the right path, declaring that we will not let the national sovereignty, its self-respect, and the country's interest be undermined, while also demanding the reinstatement of the Provincial Assemblies."
Mentioning that the 11th General Convention was organized amidst that very movement, Chairman Oli stated that this convention served as a powerful response to the narrative that "old parties have come to an end."
"Amidst that movement, the party has organized its 11th General Convention. This 11th General Convention stands as an answer to the narrative that old parties no longer exist. This is an answer that CPN (UML) is an eternal and powerful party," he said.
