KP Sharma Oli's Message on Martyrs' Day
Kathmandu. CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed his commitment to protecting democracy and national sovereignty while remembering the sacrifices of the immortal martyrs on the occasion of Martyrs' Day.
Issuing a message through social media on Friday, Oli stated that while Martyrs' Day might seem like just another date on the calendar to the current generation, looking back at history makes it clear how the freedom we enjoy today was achieved.
He reminded that in B.S. 1997, the Rana regime executed Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand, and Gangalal Shrestha for raising their voices for democracy, noting that those sacrifices sowed the seeds of the movement against autocratic and family rule.
According to Chairman Oli, today's society achieved democratic rights as a result of the joint movement of Communists and Congress.
"Remembering the legacy of the historic struggle to establish democratic rights in place of autocratic rule, I offer my heartfelt tributes to the immortal martyrs Dashrath Chand, Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, and Gangalal Shrestha," he wrote.
Stating that the value of the martyrs' sacrifice will never be forgotten, Oli also affirmed his constant commitment to defending Nepal's national sovereignty and democracy.
