MP Khusbu Oli Demands PM Accountability in Parliament
Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP Khusbu Oli has stated in Parliament that the demand for the Prime Minister’s presence is not merely to see his face, but a search for accountability.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting held on Thursday, she expressed that democracy is not just a system for winning elections but a practice of continuous dialogue. She maintained that the demand for the Prime Minister in the House is a quest for responsibility rather than just his physical presence.
She said, "Democracy is not just a system for winning elections. It is a practice of continuous dialogue. Therefore, calling the Prime Minister to this place and seeking his presence is not just to see his face. We have sought accountability from him."
Oli mentioned that they had accepted the Prime Minister leaving the House without speaking during the first session, but expressed dissatisfaction over his absence during the discussion on the government’s policies and programs in the second session as well.
She also commented that while questions regarding landless squatters and the Constitutional Council are raised in the House, the Prime Minister responds to the country and the people through social media. She accused the Prime Minister of being reluctant toward the House and unwilling to be accountable to parliamentary practice.
She said, "The Prime Minister left without speaking in the first session, and we accepted that. The second session began; the policies and programs are his programs. He left in the middle of the program without taking ownership. Perhaps he had some constraints. We raise questions about the landless squatters and the Constitutional Council in the House, while the Prime Minister answers the country and the people on his social media.
Perhaps the Prime Minister is uninterested in this House. He has not tried to be responsible toward parliamentary practice. We sought his presence because his voice becomes a direction."
