Newly Elected Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal Assumes Office

Kathmandu. The newly appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal (DP), has assumed his office. He took charge on Sunday after taking the oath of office and secrecy. Speaking with media persons after assuming office, he stated that the strongest opposition this time is the people themselves. While mentioning that the opposition remains strong even if there is only one person, he expressed his understanding that the House should belong to the opposition.

He said, "The strongest opposition this time is the people. This year's 2082 election is a special election. It is different from many past elections and future elections. The current parliament has come from a mandate. While sitting in the capacity of Speaker, I feel that the strongest opposition this time is the people themselves. No matter if there is only one person in the opposition, they are still the opposition. They will be strong. I understand that the House must belong to the opposition."

He committed to taking the lead in making good policies and rules. He also pledged that even if only one person from the opposition shows interest, their respect and the issues they raise will be presented properly.

"The government makes good policies and rules. The work done by the House of Representatives and us is to make laws. Therefore, we will take the lead in law-making. No matter if only one person from the opposition shows interest, I will present myself well in terms of their respect and how their issues should be raised."
