Nepali Congress Needs Major Reform and Purification: Gagan Thapa
Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has stated that there is a need for major reform, purification, and rejuvenation within the party.
Speaking via social media, he noted that questions are being raised about the Nepali Congress's struggle for societal transformation since its establishment, indicating the necessity for purification and rejuvenation within the party.
He said, "Now, it's not enough for us to just speak; major reform is needed. That reform will happen within the party. What we will do and what we won't do within the party, how we will carry out purification, how we will bring about rejuvenation? And how a purified and rejuvenated party will bring about improvements in the work of the government?"
Leader Thapa mentioned that the youth, through the 'Gen Z' movement, have questioned the Nepali Congress's conduct and work style, stating they are not in line with the party's values. Thapa accepted past mistakes and stressed the need to formulate new resolutions and plans at the upcoming convention.
"We also made mistakes and weaknesses in the past. What is it that we won't do now? How do we separate society or institutions from issues of corruption? In the context of all these matters, we must make a resolution from our convention and formulate our plans," he said. He also stated that the Nepali Congress is not a party connected to power.
