Nepali Communist Party Publicizes Stance on Political Situation and Upcoming Elections
Kathmandu. The Nepali Communist Party has made its views public regarding the current political situation and the upcoming elections, calling on all concerned stakeholders to be responsible in ensuring the elections are conducted in a clean, fair, and fearless environment.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the party mentioned that the country is moving from a complex and sensitive state toward a decisive electoral process, claiming that its stance on holding the elections at the scheduled time is based on objective circumstances and has been proven correct. The party also stated that it is making honest and continuous efforts to normalize the situation following the movements of the youth generation.
The party claimed that public trust is increasing based on its history of struggle, clear ideology, and future action plans. It mentioned that it has consistently raised agendas such as governance reform following the promulgation of the constitution, strengthening the federal democratic republic, good governance, social justice, a self-reliant economy, and job creation.
During the press conference, it was noted that the country is facing challenges from two types of extremism. The party's view is that both the tendency to protect misgovernance while suppressing peaceful movements on one hand, and activities that attack the pillars of democracy on the other, are harmful to democracy and national stability.
The party expressed strong opposition to violent activities against unarmed citizens and security personnel. Drawing attention to activities violating the election code of conduct, the party accused some media outlets of spreading misleading information.
Urging the media to adhere to journalistic values and the election code of conduct, an appeal was also made to the Press Council Nepal for impartial monitoring.
Similarly, the party urged the Election Commission to play an effective role in ensuring a fair, independent, and fear-free election. Being serious about the questions raised against the Commission, the party expressed that necessary steps must be taken to strictly implement the code of conduct and maintain public trust.
The party mentioned that it has already made its commitments and action plans public, urging voters to make a wise decision by deeply evaluating the ideologies, roles, and agendas of all parties.
Furthermore, a call was made to the government, security agencies, and all relevant parties to conduct clean and fair elections with the highest level of responsibility.
At the press conference, Agni Prasad Sapkota, coordinator of the Election Publicity Committee, stated that national unity, sovereignty, and the protection of democratic values are necessary to provide an exit for the country from the current crisis.
